Cricket: Double title delight for Northop juniors

NORTHOP’s junior section has two champion sides after their under 9s and under 11s each won their respective North East Wales Junior League Finals to become champions of the region.

It was the U9s who had the most dramatic win, as the Northern Division champions beat Southern Division winners Bersham at Halkyn by 20 runs.

Bersham entered the game with only one defeat, as did Northop and a damp pitch resulted in their game being played on Halkyn’s artificial wicket.

Northop skipper Josh Andrady won the toss and chose to bat and openers Ben Beaver and Luke Forsyth rotated the strike well with boundaries hard to come by due to Bershams disciplined bowling and fielding.

Henry Dowd anchored the innings and Northop closed on 256.Š

A confident Bersham strode out and started strongly but Luke Forsyth got into them and a key spell saw him claim three wickets in four balls narrowly missing out on a hat trick.

It was enough to put Bersham on the ropes and they were finished off for 236, sparking wild celebrations from the Northop contingent of players and parents.
