HALKYN returned to winning ways on Saturday as Mike Briscoe and Kevin Jones inspired them to a 89-run win at Llay Welfare in North Wales League Division One.
With the pressure off the ever-improving Pant Newydd outfit, opener Briscoe opened his shoulders to fire 17 fours on his way to 103 – a decisive knock which allowed his men to declare on 160-8.
Then it was all about Jones as he snaffled 6-19 to skittle under-strength Llay for 71.
Northop went down by four wickets at home to Denbigh.
The Flint Road team’s inability to beat the pacesetters has cost them the chance of promotion – and it was more of the same against the newly- crowned champions.
Despite the best efforts of Andy Poynton (3-29), Denbigh reached 167-6 in reply to 166-9dec (Darren Williams 58).
Buckley 2nds won their Division Five derby with relegated Halkyn 2nds on Saturday.
After Alyn Evans (3-13), Adam Shaw (2-12) and Daz Wilcock (2-15) ripped through the rock-bottom hosts for 52, captain Shaw (28) had the easy job of seeing his side to 53-3.
The following day Northop 3rds lost to Menai Bridge 2nds, who stopped their visitors 35 runs short on 146 (Thomas Hughes 37) having been set 181-8 (Liam Moores 2-23).
