Cricket: Ewloe Green girls retain North Wales title but boys just miss out

THE girls of Ewloe Green County Primary School were crowned North Wales kwik cricket champions for the second successive year but their boys narrowly avoided making it a memorable double triumph in the North Wales Kwik Cricket Tournament.

In Aberystwyth they were pitted against teams competing from schools across the region and the boys finished runners-up while the girls went one better and lifted the trophy as North Wales champions, successfully defending their crown.

Ewloe junior teacher and cricket coach David Sauvage praised his pupils’ efforts.

“The boys had to get through various competitions to get to that point and to finish runners-up was a commendable achievement,” he said.

“The girls won a trip to Derbyshire cricket ground for their fantastic achievement of a second title.

“The players showed very good teamwork. After a tentative start they bonded well as a team. Their success was very pleasing to see.

“I have got a lot of kids coming through who are looking strong too so we could be looking at three years in a row for the girls team in 2011.”
