LANCASHIRE 2nds will be playing a home game in the First Class Counties Second Eleven Trophy at Northop Hall’s Smithy Lane on May 14.
Featuring Chester’s Louis Bentley, who has come through Lancashire’s Academy system, the County reserves will face Unicorns, a side made up of players nominated by regional cricket boards from their recreational players.
The players who made the grade were permitted to enter into cup competitions under the name Unicorns, in the hope it may help counties identify hitherto untapped talents plying their trade at club level.
The result should be a fixture between a young and hungry Lancashire side, which depending on injuries may even include a couple of recovering players from the reigning County champions, and a Unicorns side full of players who feel they may catch the eye and earn themselves a first class contract.
Last time Lancashire 2nds played at Smithy Lane was in the same competition and they defeated Worcestershire by 41 runs on their way to the final, where they lost to Nottinghamshire by four wickets.
Entrance to the match is free and there will be food, refreshments and a licensed bar open.
Play will begin at noon on Monday, May 14.
