Clwyd League: Connah’s Quay Town remain team to beat in Premier Division

CONNAH’S Quay Town cemented top spot in the Clwyd League Premier Division on Saturday after coming from behind to win 4-1 at home to Shotton Steel.

The Steelmen led through Owen Pierce, but Ben Howarth, Carl Wilson, Lee Reynolds and Brynley Preece swung the derby the Quay’s way.

Sychdyn produced an even greater comeback. Trailing badly at the break to Rhuddlan Town Reserves, the visitors hit back after the restart to nick it 4-3 with Dale Lovett (2), Tim Hughes and Mark Poynton efforts.

Aston Park Rangers (Anthony Weaver 2) lost 4-2 at home to second-placed Abergele Rovers.

Late, late goals from Gareth Henley and Josh Newby earned high-flying Caerwys a vital 2-1 victory at Betws-yn-Rhos in Division One.

Wepre Rangers (John Campbell, Scott Greenough 2) went down 4-3 at Llannefydd.

Gap Connah’s Quay crashed out of the Reserves President’s Cup second round after being thrashed 8-0 at home by Prestatyn Town.

Flint Town United (Jordan Evans, Lee Acott) boosted their Reserves Premier League title challenge the previous night with a 2-0 triumph at Llandudno.
