Deeside Sunday League: Melrose and Castle Inn through to Queensferry Sports Challenge Cup quarters

DIVISION One duo Melrose and Castle Inn needed extra-time to make it through to the quarter-finals of the Deeside Sunday League Queensferry Sports Challenge Cup.

Melrose (John Faulkner, Gary McConnell, Mike Hopkinson) edged a close encounter at home to Mill Tavern (Luke Reece, Graham Lovett) 3-2, with Castle (Jimmy Guy, Shane Higgins, Dave Parsonage) matching that scoreline at home to Mold Ex-Servicemen’s Club (Chris Guy, Christian Davies).

Bridge Inn, Sandycroft (Paulo Cusato, Mike Turton, Tom Owen 2, Royston Cartwright) moved within one point of top spot in Division One with a 5-0 victory at Ewloe Social Club.

Abbots Arms became the first team to progress to the Division One Cup semi-finals with a 5-3 penalty shootout success at Cross Foxes.

The last-eight tie ended 4-4 after extra-time with Dwayne Durham, Wayne Bayliss, Matty Bennett and Simon Holiday netting for the hosts, and Danny Henley, Paul Williams (2) and Tony Hogan for Abbots.

Two own goals from Jody Hamilton helped Flint RBL (Danny Davies, Marc Gunther) to a 4-3 win at Division Two leaders Hare & Hounds (Jamie McConnell, Lee Evans, Matty Roberts).

Steven Dodd hit a double hat-trick as title-chasing Mountain Park (Phil Lloyd 3, Luke Tyson, Craig Jones, Lee Messham, Tommy O’Neill) hammered visiting Royal Oak, Greenfield 13-0 in Division Three.
