GAP Connah’s Quay’s Under 12s Academy side made a dream start to 2010 when they travelled to derby rivals Airbus and returned with a superb 9-2 success.
Hat-trick hero Lewis Harris led the scoring as he completed his treble in the opening period as Nomads entered the break 6-1 in front.
It was an impressive performance from the young Nomads, especially considering the heavy conditions due to the weather.
Further goals came through a Tom Ash brace and singles from Rhys Cunnah, Tom Bibby, Ben Wadilove and Liam Smith with Aaron Dowsett taking the man-of-the-match award.
Airbus U14s had better fortune against Nomads, with the Wingmakers emerging 4-2 winners.
Defender Richard Hughes was Connah’s Quay’s star man and with Hayden Hughes helping himself to a double, Nomads went into half-time on level terms at 2-2, having fought back from two goals behind.
But Airbus wrapped the game up in the second half after the visitors failed to capitalise on a number of chances.
Nomads’ U16s went top of their FAW Academy Cup group with a 3-0 win at Airbus.
MoM Ricky Wynne played in Jack Higgott just before half-time with a superb 20-yard pass, and Higgott netted with his first touch of the game.
A second-half brace from Aled Reece then made the game safe for a delighted Nomads.
