Welsh Alliance: Welcome win for Halkyn United

HALKYN United boosted their Welsh Alliance survival prospects with a welcome 3-1 home win over Nefyn United on Saturday.

Carl Butler (2) and Paul Hughes shared the strikes in what was the Pant Newydd outfit’s first league victory in 10 games.

Rhydymwyn maintained their four-point lead at the top with a 2-0 triumph at Glan Conwy given to them by John Haseldine and Tom McElmeel.

Holywell Town were knocked-out of the Cookson Cup quarter-finals, losing 1-0 at Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Holywell return to league action at Nefyn on Saturday while Halkyn head to Pwllheli. Rhydymwyn are away to Barmouth & Dyffryn United in the Barritt Cup second round (all 2pm).

A top-quality hat-trick from Leon Bowen fired Castell Alun Colts to an excellent 3-1 victory at Corwen in the Welsh National League Premier Division on Saturday.

Robbie Williams also impressed in a win which hauled the third-placed Colts to within three points of top spot on the eve of Saturday’s home clash with Coedpoeth United.

Hawarden Rangers are in Premier Division Cup quarter-final action at home to Llay Welfare (both 2pm).

Liam Doran and Chris Forshaw saw Hawarden’s second string to a 2-1 home triumph over Elements Cefn Druids on Saturday to move level on points with Reserves Division pacesetters Airbus UK Broughton.
