Football: Holywell Town book Barritt Cup final spot in penalty shootout

HOLYWELL Town have reached the final of the Barritt Cup after a hard-earned home win against Glan Conwy on penalties.

At full-time the sides were level 2-2, Ashley Durham and Sam Jones twice giving the Wellmen the lead only for Cheris King and Gavin Phillips to equalise for Conwy.

In extra-time Aaron Boyle gave Glan Conwy a slender advantage in the 105th minute, but within two minutes Jones had restored parity and sent the game into a shootout lottery.

It was Holywell’s lucky day though as they emerged 5-3 victors from the shootout and they will now go into the final at Caernarfon Town on Saturday, May 12 where they will face either Holyhead Hotspur or Gwalchmai, who played last night after the Chronicle went to press.

In the Welsh Alliance Division Two, Greenfield earned a point at Amlwch Town.

Their game ended 3-3 as Greenfield came from behind three times to level, through Shaun Pritchard, Keith Ainsworth and Alex McKay.

Basement side Halkyn United slumped to a 7-2 loss on the road at Kinmel Bay Sports.
