Huws Gray Alliance: Rhydymwyn end losing run with amazing late Ruthin Town win

RHYDYMWYN will go into this Saturday’s derby at home to Flint Town United (2pm) in confident mood after they ended their seven-match Huws Gray Alliance winless run in the most dramatic of fashions.

Danny Seamarks’ side were seemingly heading for a fifth straight defeat when they fell two goals behind in their crucial clash at basement boys Ruthin Town last Saturday.

But thanks to strikes from Chris Guy (2) and Lee Reynolds, they battled back to record a stunning 3-2 victory which has provided a massive boost to their quest for survival.

Ruthin, who have now lost their last eight league games, opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Sion Davies and doubled it in the 52nd through Jack Crompton. That was harsh on Rhydymwyn, who had spent most of the match on the front foot.

But they refused to let their heads drop and Guy reduced the deficit 20 minutes from time when he skipped past the Ruthin goalkeeper and smashed in.

An equaliser followed in the 83rd minute when Lee Reynolds glanced in a Terry Pughe free kick.

Rather than settle for a point, Rhydymwyn went all out in search of a winner.

And they got one in injury-time as Guy netted at the second attempt after he was released by Alex Sumner.

That sparked huge celebrations on the visiting bench. They would have been cut short, however, had Ruthin not had an effort ruled out for offside.

The only sour note for Rhydymwyn was the shoulder injury sustained by new boy Tom Vickers.

Vickers, a recent arrival from Caersws, is expected to be out for several weeks.

Flint’s game at home to Penrhyncoch and Buckley Town’s trip to Caersws were postponed.

Buckley welcome Guilsfield to Globe Way this Saturday before travelling to Rhyl on Boxing Day (both 2.30pm).
