Ice Hockey: Flintshire Raptors impress on busy weekend

FLINTSHIRE Raptors, the county under 10s ice hockey team, were back in action on Saturday with a game against a travelling Ashfield team.

It was a close contest but the Raptors came out on top with a 7-2 win.

Michael Speare led the scorers, sliding home two goals for the Raptors.

The rest were scored by James Shaw, Mathew Byrne, Erik Tuft, Liam Canty and Louis Morgan.Š

The Spirit-of-the-Game award went to Mathew Byrne, the newest and youngest member of the Raptors squad, who is settling in well as his goal proved.

The Raptors were in back-to-back action as they returned to the ice on Sunday in front of a boisterous crowd at Deeside Ice Rink.

They were not competing in a league match however, but an exhibition match during the first interval in the match between the Flintshire Freeze and the Solihull Barons.

The mini-game saw the squad split into two teams to showcase their talents and despite the fact it was late in the day, both sides were able to score and give the assembled throng something to cheer.
