Football: Shotton Steel eliminate Penycae to begin cup run

SHOTTON Steel booked their place in the second round of the U15s NEWFA Cup with a 4-2 triumph over Penycae Youth.

A Chris Inskip double plus goals from David Ellis and Ben Waddilove were enough to send Steel through.

Flint Town Juniors (Grant Spenser, Iwan Williams, Max Middleton 2, Dominic Keighley 2, Callum Bates, Jordan Hensel) will join them in the hat after their 8-1 win over Connah’s Quay Tigers (Niall Evans).

But there was an early exit for Hawarden Rangers (Scott Oates, Ryan Dunning), stung 7-2 at Borras Park Albion.

Luke Evans scored six for Ysceifiog Wolves in their 9-1 win at Holywell Town Juniors in the league. Levi Gorman got a hat-trick in the same game.

Ewloe Harriers beat Penyffordd 8-0.

It was a good day to be the hosts in the U16s league as all bar one side sent their visitors packing.

Mold Alex claimed a 6-2 win over Mynydd Isa Coyotes, with goals from Alex Calvert (2), Christos Pyrgas (2), Conall Mullen and Shane Wellings.

Connah’s Quay Tigers (Alex Betts, Lewis Steen, Ben Brierley) sealed a 3-1 victory at home to Holywell Town Juniors (Peter Trumper) and Hawarden (Alex Jones 2, Connor Arrowsmith, Sean Brown) saw off Flint Town Juniors (Jonathon Gorman, Niall Roberts) 4-2.

The only home team not to take maximum points was Mostyn Dragons (Sam Ellis 2), who were held to a 2-2 draw by Penyffordd.
