Football: Shotton Steel fire eight past Hawarden in U14s

JOE Johnson struck a sensational five goals for Shotton Steel in their 8-0 victory over Hawarden in the under 14s section of the Queensferry Sports Flintshire Junior and Youth League.

His haul put Steel firmly in control and goals from Iwan Rogers, Nathan Mendosa and Alex Gourney completed the rout.

In the U12s division, Hawker Jets were on the wrong end of a 5-2 loss at home to Connah’s Quay Tigers.

An own goal and a Ben Lawrence strike ensured the Jets were on the scoresheet but a Charlie Cottis double, plus goals for Jack Lockley, Matthew Hill and Jay Parsonage, handed the Tigers the points.

The Buckley derby was the big game in the U15s and the big winners were Buckley Town Wanderers, who defeated Buckley Town United 10-0.

Luke Muia, Nathan Williams, Rhys Jones, Rhys Hewitt, Aled Bellis, Rhys Jones, Liam Reeves and Tom Bridges shared the goals as Wanderers had the game sewn up 8-0 by half time.

And it was goals galore in the division as Shotton beat Holywell Town Juniors 7-0 with a Chris Inskip hat trick and goals from George Rathbones (2), Jack Chambers and Andy Jones.

The U16s all had NEWFA Cup ties to play and Penyffordd booked their place in the next round with an 8-2 win at Penycae Youth.

Jared Carey and Rhys Lloyd struck twice and there were goals for Liam Hughes, David Stewart, Henry Calver and Tom Davies.

Connah’s Quay Tigers knocked out Johnstown 4-2 after Ken Crozier opened the scoring and Ben Brierley claimed a hat trick and Mynydd Isa Coyotes defeated hosts Ruthin Town 4-0.
