Football: Flintshire Junior and Youth League Challenge Cup dominates weekend

BUCKLEY Colts remain in the hunt for the Queensferry Sports Flintshire Junior and Youth League Challenge Cup after securing a 5-0 win at Penyffordd.

A Jack Peers hat-trick underpinned the Colts’ success as Niall Dean and Rhys Holt joined him on the scoresheet.

League action saw Mynydd Isa Galaxy fire nine past Ewloe Harriers without reply.

Galaxy’s goals came from Conor Martin (3), Dane Shorrock, Ewan Whitley, Harri Mitchell, Liam Tattum, Liam Edwards and Will Owens.

A much closer affair at Hawker Jets resulted in Flint Town Colts returning home with a hard-earned 3-2 victory.

Dylan Allshorn and Ryan Noble gave the Colts a 2-0 lead but the Jets hit back through Daniel Radford and Junior Scott in the second half. George Davies secured the points for the Colts.

In the U13s Challenge Cup, Mold Alex Dragons got their second wind to progress in extra time against Connah’s Quay Tigers 6-3.

The game had ended 3-3 in normal time, Brendan Wright (2) and Ethan Parry’s goals for the Dragons cancelled out by Jordan Jackson, a Jay Coppack penalty and a Charlie Bradley effort for the Tigers.

But with the game extended Parry grabbed his second for the home side and Jac Morgan and Sion Thomas completed the scoreline.

They will be joined in the hat by Holywell, who beat Ysceifiog Wolves 5-1.

Ben Simm, Ethan Farren, Jake Cooke (2) and Matthew Trumper found the net for the Wellmen, Keian Davies replying for the Wolves.

Shotton Steel won through 5-3 in the league against Broughton Super Saints (Jack Allwood, Joe Salisbury, Ryan Hughes) while Mold Alex Sparks (Sean Mason 3, Conor Hopwood) enjoyed a 4-1 triumph over Deeside Phoenix (Lauren Lyons).

Mold Alex Knights slipped out of the U14s Challenge Cup as visiting Holywell beat them 3-0.

Broughton Super Saints also bid farewell after a 10-0 loss at Shotton Steel (Iwan Rogers, Joe Johnson, Nathan Mendosa, Martyn Smith-Aldous) and Mold Alex Hornets (Ben Bruford, James Pritchard-Wood, Liam Foster) secured passage with a 3-0 win over Halkyn United Juniors.

Hawarden Rangers (Alex Deeley 2, Andrew Oates, Corey Jones, Harry Brownbill) scored a league win, beating Flint Town Colts 5-0 while Mynydd Isa Young Guns ground out a 0-0 draw with Flint Town Juniors.

Shotton Steel (Thomas Bibby 2, Will Leonard, Andrew Jones 4) earned a 7-0 win at Mynydd Isa Devils in the U15s Division.

Penyffordd (Joe Walsh, Gethin Thomas 2) came from behind to beat Buckley Town United (Ben Hughes, Luke Muia) 3-2 and a James Adamson double earned a point for Ysceifiog Wolves against Ewloe Harriers (Adam Randles, Matthew Bouch).

A high-scoring game at Mold Alex (Adam Kendrick, Tom Smith, Will Smith, C Azimale 3) saw the home side defeat Hawarden Rangers (Daniel Beach, Kieran Birchall, Ryan Dunning, Thomas Janney) 6-4 while Connah’s Quay Tigers overcame Buckley Town Wanderers 4-1.

Holywell Town Juniors (Hadyn Wynne( took the lead against Mold Alex in the U16s Division, but the Alex recovered to win 3-1 (Eric Thomas, Christos Pyrgas, Conall Mullen).

In the only other game, Penyffordd (Aaron Hassell, Jarred Carey 2, Rhys Lloyd) returned from Hawarden Rangers (Alex Jones) 4-1 victors.
