Running: David Mountford prepares to make Welsh debut

NEWLY-crowned North Wales five-mile champion David Mountford will make his senior running debut for Wales this weekend.

The 19-year-old Deeside AAC athlete has been selected for the national team to compete in the inter-regional race, which is part of the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k, on Sunday, November 21.

He will be joined in the Welsh squad by Buckley’s Erika Robinson.

Non-Flintshire runners include Eryri’s Rob Samuel and Richie Gardiner of Cardiff, who won last month’s Snowdonia Marathon.

The ladies’ team includes Marilyn Kitching of Tattenhall Runners, who retained her five-mile title at Abergele last Sunday.

The Deeside AAC Indoor Open will take place on November 28 at the Indoor Athletics centre at Deeside College.

Field events start at noon and include long jump and shot put for under 11s to seniors and high jump U13s to seniors.

Track events begin at 2pm and incorporate the 60m hurdles from U13s to seniors and 60m sprint from U11s to seniors.

Athletes under 11 must be at least nine-years-old on the day.

Entry fees for U11s are £2 for one event; £3 for two or three events.
