Martial arts: Medal magic for Buckley Ju Jitsu Club at British National Championships

STUDENTS from a Flintshire martial arts club were big hits at a national competition.

Sensei Gill Badrock took a team from Buckley Ju Jitsu Club to the British Ju Jitsu National Championships at Walsall Sports Centre.

There were four competition categories – random attacks, continuous fighting, pairs and weapons.

The Buckley students excelled in the continuous fighting section, reaching the final stages of the competition with some members coming away with silver and bronze medals.

In some events, they joined forces with fellow students from Ellesmere Port Ju Jitsu Club.

Buckley Sensei Badrock, who was an official at the event said: “All of the students have worked so hard to prepare for this, along with other members of the club who have given up their time to help those attending.

“I am so proud of everyone who entered. Everyone enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to enter next year.”

Nine members of the Buckley club were in action – Carregan Parry, Liam Parry, Aaron Badrock, Tom Kirkham, Kyle Rowlands, Matthew Jones, Alex Dickenson, Callum Howard and Jay Jones.

“Unfortunately, Alex Dickenson and Tom Kirkham’s fight had to be stopped due to injuries but thankfully they are OK,” added Sensei Badrock.

“I would also like to thank Sensei Dave Jones and Rich Parry, who have supported this event throughout.”

Buckley Ju Jitsu Club holds classes at Buckley Leisure Centre every Wednesday and Thursday (6pm-7pm & 7pm-8pm). For further information, contact 01244 546458 or 07751 769279.
