DANCERS who are strictly serious about ballroom dancing have the opportunity to brush up on their foxtrot at free dance workshops in Buckley.
As part of the Gwanwyn Festival, Suitcase Theatre is running three workshops at Buckley’s Academy throughout May culminating with a tea dance complete with a 1950s-style dance band.
And the theatrical company is looking for ballroom dancing couples to join it on stage in its forthcoming production of The Empire Changes Hands, which will be performed at The Academy and Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold, from July.
Suitcase Theatre director Mike Stevens says the annual Gwanwyn Festival is a month-long national celebration across Wales focusing on creativity in older people.
He said: “Gwanwyn is a collaborative initiative between key national organisations lead by Age Cymru, the Arts Council for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government; working closely with groups such as Suitcase Theatre.”
Dance workshops will take place at the Academy on three Tuesdays, May 1, 8 and 15, all from 6.30pm.
The workshops are free and professional teachers will be on hand to give advice on improving that quickstep or serious salsa. The tea dance will be on Sunday, May 20.
