A DEDICATED team that has raised almost £50,000 for Holywell Community Hospital since it opened last March has received the Flintshire Chronicle’s Your Champions team award.
The Good Companions of Holywell Hospital has raised £48,000 since the facility opened. With the money it has been able to buy state-of-the-art medical equipment, donate furniture and provide a garden for the patients.
Events have included garden fêtes and coffee mornings, while the group’s charity shop and hospital tea bar also generate cash.
The Good Companions has a committee of 30 people, with a waiting list for people who want to join in.
As well as fundraising, the group gets involved with local schools, sings to patients and has created artwork for the building.
It receives donations from a number of groups, the latest being £4,700 raised by Clwyd Practical Classics car club.
Chairman John Saunders said: "It has been an excellent year for us. We always have some kind of fundraising on the go.
"The community really comes together to support the hospital. We are pleased with the support we get from Holywell and surrounding villages."
Next on the group’s wish list is patio furniture for the hospital’s hard-working staff.
