GCSE results: Ysgol Maes Garmon, Mold

WELSH medium school Ysgol Maes Garmon in Mold achieved its best ever set of GCSE results.

All pupils will leave the Mold school with at least four GCSE subjects, and 99% of pupils have gained at least 5fiv GCSEs. In total 74% gained five subjects at grades A*– C, with over half of pupils gaining at least nine subjects A*– C. In terms of overall grades, 72.3% were grade C or better, and 99.7% grade G or better.

Headteacher Huw Alun Roberts said: “These excellent results are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of pupils and staff. In particular, it shows the commitment to continuous improvement, and a coaching structure which seeks to support and encourage high performance.

“We look forward to seeing the majority of these pupils returning to continue their education through the medium of Welsh at Ysgol Maes Garmon, where successes at AS, A-level and vocational courses are outstanding.”

Outstanding performances included Beth Hughes (six A*s, five As, two Bs), Ffion Conlan (five A*s, eight As, one B), Emma-Sian Hughes (five A*s, seven As, one B), Steffan Gwyn (four A*s, eight As and one B), Daniel Hardman (two A*s, eight As, three Bs), Callum Colquhoun (one *, 11As, one B), Ryan McKnight (one A*, seven As, five Bs) Iona Jones (one A*, seven As, four Bs), Meirion Hills (one A*, six As, four Bs, two Cs) Rhiannon Owen (one A*, six As, four Bs, two Cs) and Owen Ifans (one A*, five As, seven Bs).
