Iconic statues proposed for Holywell town centre

TWO historic figures could be commemorated with statues in Holywell town centre.

Holywell Town Centre Partnership Board wants to put a statue of Whitford naturalist Thomas Pennant in Panton Place and one of St Winefride in Tower Gardens.

At a meeting of Holywell Town Council , Cllr John Griffiths told members funding for the Thomas Pennant statue had been secured by Flintshire County Council.

He said the partnership board was hoping for the council’s support in applying for funding for the statue of St Winefride.

He said: “They are hoping to put that statue somewhere in Tower Gardens as a kind of focal point which will link the town to the well.

“The view is to get it in as quickly as possible and the board hopes the council will give its full support.”

Members voted to support the board and recommend that an application for funding was made to the appropriate sources.
