Badminton: Holywell in dire straits at halfway point of the season

WITH the season halfway through, relegation from Division One is looming for Flintshire League side Holywell A.

Airbus are the latest team to overcome them, thrashing them 8-0.

Only one match went to three games, Airbus’ Laura Stokes and Vicky Marker overcoming Holywell’s brave team of Nora Dunn and Nicola Mitchell 15-8.

Second-placed Denbigh A rattled up a fine 6-2 win over Mold A with Player-of-the-Match Steve Danzi partnering Paul McCracken in a close three game triumph over Mold youngsters Dan Font and Jon Savory.

Denbigh found Airbus a tougher proposition however, drawing 4-4.

The second men’s contest proved to be the highlight on the match with the Denbigh pair Martyn Williams and Arwyn Pearce getting the better of Derek Rogers and Chris Parry.

The basement battle between Northop and visitors Buckley ended up in a 7-1 win for the home team. Trevor Hunter and Rob Bishop saved Buckley’s blushes, overcoming Andy Chambers and Steve Hughes.

Mold C clinched a 7-1 win away tor Llanferres B in Division Three

Next week is the second round of the Challenge Cup and the draw is: Northop v Holywell A, Denbigh B v Holywell B, Mold A v Denbigh A, Connah’s Quay v Mold B, Buckley v Rossett, Llangollen v Ruthin A, Llanferres A v Deeside A, Deeside B v Wynnstay Arms.
