Rugby union: Shotton Steel continue to dominate

SHOTTON Steel retain their 100% record in Swalec League Division Three North with a 69-15 bonus point win over title hopefuls Harlech at Rowley’s Drive.

The Steelmen came flying out of the blocks with a try from No8 Dan Lynskey straight from the kick off followed a few minutes later by another touchdown from in-form winger John Ketland.

Ketland went on to score another three tries and keep up his top scorer tag in the process.

Shotton skipper Mark Higgins crossed the whitewash after being brilliantly set up by second row Pete Ketland, scrum-half Nick Wood scored following some neat passing in the three quarters and Higgins notched his second try.

Steve Ellson added the extras and a penalty to give Shotton a 50-0 lead at the break.

Harlech came out all guns blazing in the second half and added two quick tries.

Centre Adam Lynskey steadied the ship with a try for Shotton however and John Ketland’s superb sprinting was rewarded with two more, running from his own half on one occasion and pouncing on a grubber kick to complete his haul. Harlech grabbed a consolation try minutes before the end.

Shotton head to Llangollen on Saturday in the Intermediate Cup.

Flint’s match at Caer Borderers was postponed.
