Clwyd Junior League: Buckley Town United win NEWFA Under 12s Cup

JOEL Sampson was the hero as Buckley Town United made it a hat-trick of NEWFA Cup victories for the club by beating Penycae 2-1 in the Under 12s final.

With the bar set by successes for Buckley’s senior and U16s sides the week before, the pressure was on the newly-crowned Clwyd Junior League U 12s Division champions at the home of Brymbo FC.

But the rising stars were more than up to the challenge as they came from behind to make it a memorable treble.

Penycae started the brighter and it came as no surprise when they took a 12th-minute lead. Their lead lasted just 12 minutes, though, as hot-shot Sampson expertly controlled a long ball over the top before unleashing a laser-like shot into the bottom corner.

And that was the way it stayed until 11 minutes after the restart when Sampson kept his cool from the penalty spot to smash home the winner after super-sub Aled Bellis was brought down in the box.

Buckley Town Juniors are also celebrating after they clinched the Clwyd Junior League Under 15s Division title.

Thanks to goals from Jordan Jake, Lee Jones and Leigh Owens, Buckley won 3-0 at home to Ewloe Harriers last Wednesday to push Holywell Town Juniors into the runners-up spot.

A 3-2 loss at Llandyrnog last Wednesday all but ended any hope Buckley Town Juniors had of winning the U16s Division and adding more silverware to the club’s bulging trophy cabinet.

Shaun Tinsley bagged a brace for Buckley, who bounced back on Saturday with a 6-0 success at Holywell Town Juniors. Aled Reece, Jamie Roberts, Jordan Beck, Tinsley and Daniel Roberts (2) did the damage.

Penyffordd would have blown the championship race wide open had they been able to hold to the half-time lead given to them by Aron Roberts at home to Towyn Rangers. But the table-toppers hit back after the break to run out 4-1 winners.

Hawarden Rangers (Jake Selvester) lost 2-1 at Llandyrnog.

The U14s Division champions Mold Juniors (Aaron Davies 3, Josh Rimmer 2, Craig Williams, Richard Hughes) signed off in style with a 7-1 home success over Greenfield (Lewis Jones) last Wednesday.
