Football: Mold Maestros lift St Asaph tournament trophy

MOLD Maestros Under 9s tasted success when they won the St Asaph Tournament.

The Flintshire side overcame Denbigh via penalties in the final, after the sides proved inseparable, finishing 0-0 after extra time.

A 2-0 victory in the shootout left manager Jay Manseri and coach Jack Seery overjoyed.

Manseri was full of praise for his side.

He said: “It has been a pleasure coaching them over the last two years.

“They are a great bunch of lads and I will work hard to bring even more success their way in the future.”

Mold stormed the group stage, taking seven points from a possible nine, to finish group winners.

They saw off Kinmel Bay 2-0 thanks to goals from Jamie Nash and Teddy Seddon, before overcoming Pentre 1-0, with Lewis Hopwood hitting the winner.

They ended the group stage with 0-0 draw against Prestatyn.

They then made easy pickings of Abergele in the semi-final, with goals from Thomas Jones, Owen Cartwright, Jamie Nash and Kai Tilley sending them into the final, and eventual success.
