A special night to honour heroes
COMMUNITY champions from Flintshire and Wrexham were among those honoured at Friday’s event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Chester.
They were split into five categories for the Flintshire Chronicle and Wrexham Chronicle newspapers: Community Champion, Team, School, Sport and Young Person.
Each edition finalist was given a trophy and they went head-to-head with edition winners from Trinity Mirror’s South Cheshire, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Mid Cheshire and Runcorn and Widnes titles.
Shaun Evans, 18, of Coedpoeth, was the overall winner for the Young Person category.
Shaun, who has cerebral palsy, is a regular on the volunteer scene, helping out at a weekly OAP lunch club, a youth cafe and care group for people with mental disabilities.
The Yale College students also helps with a computer club for young people, which he started himself, and represents the Lions Club.
Lion member Ann Owen nominated Shaun calling him ‘an inspiration to young and old people alike’.
