Deeside College hairdressing students get styling tips from industry icons

HAIRDRESSING students from Deeside College have their sights set firmly on successful careers after meeting with celebrity stylists at the world famous Salon International event.

A group of 20 students travelled to London, where trainees attended guest lectures and had the opportunity to speak with some of the worlds most renowned hairdressers.

Among those the students had the opportunity to learn from was one of the world’s most sought-after stylists, Andrew Collinge.

The group took full advantage of the talk and demonstrations the industry icon gave, taking the opportunity to ask questions and ensure they had noted every word and action.

Others the students had the opportunity to gain cutting, colouring and styling tips from included Simon Shaw and Patrick Cameron, both of whom are highly regarded by their professional peers and sought after by A-list celebrities.

Both also provided the students with advice and guidance on how to achieve their dreams.

And the trainees will be putting the tips and methods to good use in the college’s new training salon, which is now open to the public for hair, beauty and complementary therapy treatments.

Hairdressing tutor Cherise Davies said: “This was an extraordinary experience for the learners.

“The hairdressers they have had the opportunity to gain advice from, both on a personal and professional level, are the industry’s finest.”

Eighteen-year-old Stacey Johnson, from Flint, added: “I am so excited about trying out some of the new techniques I have learned.

“Being able to talk to Patrick Cameron about his training has really inspired me.”

The Deeside College training salons are being re-branded as The Salon @ Deeside College.

They are open throughout the week in term time to members of the public. For more information call 01244 834508.
