Deeside College launches smartphone app

DEESIDE College has become the first Further Education establishment in Wales to go mobile by launching its very own ‘smartphone’ application.

The ‘app’, which is available to download for free from app stores or via www.deeside.ac.uk, was developed to easily engage with learners.

Compatible with iPhones, BlackBerry and Android handsets, the app allows the user to connect with the college.

Users will be able to find out more about the courses on offer, view videos from current students, get the latest news, information and media feeds, apply for full-time courses that start in September 2011, find college sites using GPS, send enquiries and questions directly to the college and much more.

Deeside College principal and chief executive David Jones said: “We are delighted to be pioneering smartphone technology. The launch of the app is only the start.

“We intend to develop our application further to include many more useful features for potential and current learners as well as for staff of the college.

“Mobile media and digital content is a huge market, learners want to access information immediately whilst on the move and the app will enable them to do this.”
