Bagillt boy, 11, ‘critical but stable’ after car crash

AN 11-year-old schoolboy is in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Bagillt.

Zack Ashley was playing on his scooter when he was struck by a grey Ford Ka at 5pm on Bagillt High Street, near the Blossoms pub.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd before being transferred to The Walton Centre in Liverpool for emergency surgery.

A North Wales Police spokeswoman yesterday described his condition as ‘critical but stable’. The 51-year-old driver of the car was unhurt.

Neighbours on Bron y Wern described Ysgol Merllyn pupil Zack as a cheerful little boy who is always out playing with his friends.

Carl Robinson said: “He is a nice lad, always on his scooter with his mates.

“It’s terrible that he’s been involved in an accident like this, we hope he gets better soon.”

Another neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said: “They should put speed bumps along that road. It’s awful to hear of children being hurt.

“They’re a quiet family, but we’re all thinking about them and hope that Zack gets better soon.”

Zack, whose older sister Sarah goes to Flint High School, is now recovering in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
