Foodbank opens in Mold

A FOOD bank which is expected to help 1,000 struggling families in the next year has opened its headquarters.

The Flintshire Food bank, run by The Trussell Trust with the Kings Christian Centre, is based in The Old Chapel on Wrexham Street and officially opened its doors last week.

The bank has already started collecting donations of tinned and non-perishable food and organisers hope they can begin distributing the produce by the end of the month.

The building was opened by Delyn MP David Hanson.

He said: “Food banks have a tremendous potential to help some of the most deprived people in Flintshire and across the UK.

“It is a great privilege to open the first in North Wales and I want to pay tribute to the volunteers who are doing such important work, helping families in need.”

Flintshire Food bank co-ordinator Peter Dorricott said once the scheme was up and running the Wrexham Street base would be open from 10am until noon on Tuesdays and Fridays for people to drop off donations.

Collections are also being held in supermarkets across the county.

He said: “The next stage is working with frontline care professionals to distribute vouchers for people in need of food packages.”
