Football: Classy Rhydymwyn cruise past Llangollen

RHYDYMWYN enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 win over Llangollen in the Welsh National League Premier Division.

Mark Coles broke the deadlock and Terry Pughe doubled their tally from the penalty spot following a foul on Dave Pitson. Dave Bryan then broke from midfield to score a spectacular goal and secure the points.

Johnstown Youth remain bottom after losing 6-0 to MOLD ALEX.

PENYFFORDD managed held Chirk AAA to a 1-1 draw after Adam Pugh cancelled out a Mike Nash opener.

In Division One, MOLD JUNIORS beat Llanuwchllyn 3-2 away from home.

NEW BRIGHTON and CASTELL ALUN COLTS shared the spoils as Damian Wilkins’ opener for the Colts was cancelled out by Adam Furnell.

SALTNEY TOWN chalked up a 4-1 win over Garden Village after captain Shaun Hughes latched on to Danny Edwards to score a scrappy early goal from close range.

Jim Huxley levelled for the visitors before Saltney regained the lead through a Jake Gibbons penalty.

They extended their lead with the first action of the second half through Liam Ashbrook and cemented their success when Gibbons converted a fine Chris Woodward long throw.

In the Reserves Division, AIRBUS UK hammered Venture 7-3.

Hat-trick hero Jordan O’Brien did the business for Airbus with Dan Lloyd, Tom Littler, Lewis Parry and Tom Parry chipping in.

CASTELL ALUN lost to Penycae 4-1.

Sean Barlow, Tom Smith, Ryan Jones and Les Morris scored for the Wrexham side while Gareth Edwards grabbed Castell’s consolation goal.

HAWARDEN RANGERS trounced Gresford Athletic Reserves 8-2 with goals from Chris Forshaw (3), James McManus (2), Tom Boyle (2) and Ashley Walker.

Gresford’s response came from Jack Bunkell and Chris Whitehall.
