Flintshire County Council plans for electronic assisted bin collection system

ASSISTED bin collections should work through a computerised system by the end of the year.

Steve Jones, head of Streetscene at Flintshire County Council, spoke about the service at a meeting of Buckley Town Council on Tuesday night.

Cllr Ron Hampson said some residents who had requested help with collections were missing out because drivers didn’t have a list of residents requiring assisted collection.

Concerns have been raised about elderly and vulnerable residents putting assisted collection stickers on their properties.

Mr Jones said: “There is a definitive list going out which is broken day by day for drivers to tick off the assisted collections.

“People don’t have to put stickers in their windows, they should go on the bins and the bins should be visible from the road on collection day only but if they aren’t staff should have the list.

“Longer term we’ll have an electronic system which will tell drivers in the cab automatically when they drive on to a street where the assisted collections are.

“We’re hoping that will be in place by the end of the year.”
